Introduction: Mechlorethamine

Description of Mechlorethamine

Mechlorethamine (medical condition): There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Mechlorethamine during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.

Mechlorethamine: A drug used to treat some types of cancer and some precancerous skin conditions. It belongs to the family of drugs called alkylating agents. Also called Mustargen.

Mechlorethamine: One of a number of synthetic agents related to sulphur mustard with antineoplastic, immunosuppressive, irritant, and carcinogenic properties. Nitrogen mustards, including mechlorethamine, cyclophosphamide, and chlorambucil, are to a highly reactive ethylene immonium derivatives that interact with nucleic acids, alkylate DNA, and inhibit DNA replication. Mechlorethamine: antineoplastic cytotoxic alkylating agent of the nitrogen mustard group.

Mechlorethamine: A vesicant and necrotizing irritant destructive to mucous membranes. It was formerly used as a war gas. The hydrochloride is used as an antineoplastic in Hodgkin's disease and lymphomas. It causes severe gastrointestinal and bone marrow damage.
