Mycobacterium chelonae: rapid-growing mycobacterium (Runyon group IV) that causes sporadic infection in any tissue or organ system in humans following cardiothoracic surgery, peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, augmentation mammoplasty, arthroplasty, and immunocompromised patients.

Mycobacterium chelonae: A species of gram-positive, aerobic bacteria commonly found in soil and occasionally isolated from sputum. It causes postoperative wound infections as well as gluteal abscesses.
