Obsessive-compulsive: Having a tendency to perform certain repetitive acts or ritualistic behavior to relieve anxiety, associated with obsessive thoughts, as in obsessive-compulsive neurosis (e.g., a compulsive, ritualistic need to wash one's hands many dozens of times per day).
