Introduction: Postmyocardial infarction syndrome (PMIS)

Description of Postmyocardial infarction syndrome (PMIS)

Postmyocardial infarction syndrome (PMIS) (medical condition): A group of symptoms that can occur days, weeks or months after a heart attack or heart surgery. The symptoms may be due to such things as autoimmune processes, virus or bleeding around the heart which can result in inflammation of the membrane surrounding the heart.

Postmyocardial infarction syndrome (PMIS): a complication developing several days to several weeks after myocardial infarction; its clinical features are fever, leukocytosis, chest pain, and evidence of pericarditis, sometimes with pleurisy and pneumonitis, with a strong tendency to recurrence; probably of immunopathogenetic origin.
