Respiratory system (organ): The respiratory system includes the organs, structures and substances that take in and transport air into the body during processes that include inhalation. Substances in the air include vital oxygen and other gasses and substances carried in the air, such as viruses and molds. The respiratory system also is involved with removing waste from the body in the form of carbon dioxide during processes that include exhalation.
