Description of Sea-blue histiocyte disease

Sea-blue histiocyte disease (medical condition): A rare condition involving the presence of too many histiocytes in the spleen and bone marrow. These histiocytes stain a sea-blue color during testing. These abnormal staining histiocytes have been noted in several diseases such as Niemann-Pick disease, lipid metabolism disorders and Norum disease. See also Sea-Blue histiocytosis:

Sea-blue histiocyte disease: [MIM*269600] splenomegaly and mild thrombocytopenia, with histiocytes in the bone marrow which contain cytoplasmic granules that stain bright blue; sometimes familial; perhaps a lipidosis; autosomal recessive inheritance.
