Submacular Cysticercosis
Introduction: Submacular Cysticercosis
Description of Submacular Cysticercosis
Submacular Cysticercosis (medical condition): An infectious disease caused by the pork tapeworm Taenia solium. If the larvae are ingested then a mild or asymptomatic tapeworm infection occurs. However, ingested eggs pass into the bloodstream where they can then enter various tissues and form the cysts that characterize cysticercosis.

Submacular Cysticercosis: Article Excerpts about Cysticercosis
Cysticercosis is an infection caused by the pork tapeworm, Taenia solium. Infection occurs when the tapeworm larvae enter the body and form cysticerci (SIS-tuh-sir-KEY) (cysts). When cysticerci are found in the brain, the condition is called neurocysticercosis (NEW-row SIS-tuh-sir-KO-sis). (Source: excerpt from Cysticercosis: DPD)
