Description of Tensile strength

Tensile strength: the maximum tensile stress or load that a material is capable of sustaining; usually expressed in pounds per square inch.

Tensile strength: the tendency of materials to stretch rather than break when pulled apart; especially applicable to wire, cord, and the like, but may apply to biological tissues as well.
