Testosterone: The most potent naturally occurring androgen, formed in greatest quantities by the interstitial cells of the testes, and possibly secreted also in small amounts by the ovary and adrenal cortex; may be produced in nonglandular tissues from precursors such as androstenedione; used in the treatment of hypogonadism, cryptorchism, certain carcinomas, and menorrhagia. Various preparations are used therapeutically.

Testosterone: A synthetic form of the endogenous androgenic steroid testosterone. Due to rapid metabolism by the liver, therapeutic testosterone is generally administered as an ester derivative. This agent and its derivatives promote the maintenance of male sex characteristics and are indicated for testosterone replacement in hypogonadal males, delayed puberty, and metastatic mammary cancer. Testosterone: A potent androgenic steroid and major product secreted by the LEYDIG CELLS of the TESTIS. Its production is stimulated by LUTEINIZING HORMONE from the PITUITARY GLAND. In turn, testosterone exerts feedback control of the pituitary LH and FSH secretion. Depending on the tissues, testosterone can be further converted to DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE or ESTRADIOL.

Because many drug names share similar spellings or sound almost identical when spoken, it is possible to mistake the name of a particular medication. Other drugs that are sometimes confused with Testosterone include:
Testosterone (treatment): Gonadal hormone also used as a treatment.
Testosterone (treatment): Testosterone is a hormone produced by the gonads (testes). Supplementary testosterone is used as a treatment for certain diseases.
Testosterone (treatment): See Testosterone (treatment information).
