Description of Thyronine

Thyronine: An amino acid with a diphenyl ether group in the side chain; occurs in proteins only in the form of iodinated derivatives (iodothyronines), such as thyroxine.

Thyronine: the p-hydroxyphenyl ether of tyrosine, polyiodination of which yields active thyroid hormone (T3 and T4).

Thyronine: A group of metabolites derived from THYROXINE and TRIIODOTHYRONINE via the peripheral enzymatic removal of iodines from the thyroxine nucleus. Thyronine is the thyroxine nucleus devoid of its four iodine atoms.
