Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense: a protozoan subspecies causing Rhodesian trypanosomiasis; it is transmitted by tsetse flies, especially Glossina morsitans in humans; various game animals can act as reservoir hosts. SYN: Trypanosoma rhodesiense.
