30 percent of emergency department patients report depression during the past year

A survey of emergency department patients showed that30% of the 752 subjects had suffered from depression in the past year. These people were also more likely to be middle-aged females of a lower socioeconomic status. These results mean that it would be useful to utilize a simple test to diagnose at risk patients with depression who come to emergency departments and thus ensure they receive treatment.
