52 percent of British people fear exercise for one reason or another

A new report claims that 52% of British people are "fitness phobics" who are afraid to exercise. The anxiety about exercise may be due to such things as fear of injury, embarrassment about public sweating, feeling too out of shape to exercise and concerns about being laughed at by children. Pain and discomfort were the main reason that people were not planning to exercise during the current year. Experts recommend 30 minutes of exercise five times a week. Young people are particularly averse to exercise, probably because they feel invincible and prefer to drink, smoke and socialize. It is estimated that up to 70% of people do not get enough exercise. 22% of British men and 23% of British women are obese. Many people find gyms particularly unappealing. Lack of exercise can increase a person's risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
