Asthma UK has completed a study to determine the extent of asthma in the population. It was found that about 5.2 million people have asthma (about 1.1 million of which are children). The costs of asthma are roughly 2.3 billion pounds in direct and indirect costs. The report also indicated that it is more cost effective to have well controlled asthma rather than having to treat severe asthma attacks in hospital.
