An American scientist has voiced his concern over several commonly used drugs. This has led to 5 drugs facing further testing to prove their safety. The European Medicines Agency is reassessing the recommended dosages for Crestor which is a cholesterol lowering drug. Crestor has raised concerns with respect to possible kidney failure. Serevent is also being reassessed due to increased risk of death in severe asthmatics. Also, under review are: Bestra – an arthritis drug, Roaccutane – acne treatment and Meridia – a weight loss drug. Authorities believe that although some of the risks are exceedingly small, patients still need to be advised of them. Nevertheless, the manufacturers of the 5 drugs all claim that they are safe and effective but will follow and further testing recommendations.
