A man was diagnosed with intestinal obstruction after being admitted to hospital for severe abdominal pain and vomiting. After surgery, doctors told the patient that he had Crohn’s disease. His condition deteriorated and further surgery showed segments of dead bowel which were removed but he died soon after from ischemic bowel disease. Pathology reports showed that Crohn’s disease was not present. The family settled their negligence claim against the surgeon for $790,000.
