A new study published in the journal, Hypertension, suggests that even light to moderate alcohol consumption on an empty stomach may increase the risk of hypertension. People should consume alcohol with a meal or food to minimize the risk of high blood pressure. More than two alcoholic drinks per day is considered a high level of alcohol consumption and it increases the risk of high blood pressure. The type of alcohol or gender had no effect on level of risk.
