Children suffering adult disease

Adolescents being diagnosed with type II diabetes, also known as adult-onset diabetes is gaining speed with the increasing proportion of teenagers reaching the overweight and obese ranges. Those at risk have a family history and carry excess weight. Diabetes is a silent disease, normally detected on a routine blood test, which can result in blindness, renal failure, loss of limbs through amputation, and premature death. These complications normally present 15 years after the diagnosis of diabetes and are therefore likely to happen earlier in life in those people diagnosed at a younger age. The best treatment for type II diabetes is weight loss and exercise.
