Diet affects ADHD

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention-deficit disorder (ADD) is a common reason for medicating a child, however, parents and doctors are becoming more aware that distractibility of a child can be influenced by other factors. Diet plays a large part, and foods that exacerbate ADHD symptoms include corn, wheat, eggs, milk and milk products, and citrus fruits. A diet deficient in essential fatty acids can also play a role. Dietary exclusion and supplementation can improve the behavior of children, but for those diagnosed with ADHD or ADD, consultation with your family doctor is advised before withdrawing any medication.
