Erectile dysfunction or impotence, is when the penis cannot achieved an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse due to age, psychological, physiological or medication causes and influences 18 million American males' sex lives. Main causes include damage of the blood vessels from diabetes, smoking, alcohol, and kidney disease, damage of the nerves from pelvic surgery and multiple sclerosis, depression and anxiety, and medications including blood pressure drugs, antidepressants, antihistamines, sedatives, etc. Impotence can be treated by discontinuing the causative drugs, taking erectile dysfunction drugs including hormonal therapy, using sexual aids, addressing psychological issues, and surgery.
