Men need to be aware that erectile dysfunction is often a symptom of cardiovascular problems. Drugs like Viagra are more competent at increasing blood flow to the penis than to the heart. However, statins used to treat high cholesterol may also be effective against erectile dysfunction say researchers who are currently testing the theory. Experts advise patients with erectile dysfunction to see a doctor rather than self prescribing drugs like Viagra which could have a negative effect on undiagnosed heart conditions.
