Surrey hospital is defending its surgical sanitation conditions after 5 women have recently claimed to have suffered from post-surgical infections. All of them had cesarean sections which were followed by severe wound infections. In all but one of the cases, the victims have not been informed of the type of infection they were suffering but most of them believe it was a necrotizing bacterial infection. One woman claims that after returning to the emergency room with a wound infection following a cesarean, she was operated on without anaesthetic. The women have made a formal request for their records but have been told they need to wait for 30 working days. In its defence, the hospital claims that its infection rate is at 3.57% which is only slightly higher than the national benchmark of 3.5%.
