Impotence and hypertension

Erectile dysfunction can be a clue to undiagnosed and uncontrolled high blood pressure according to experts who also associate impotence with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, liver disease and peripheral vascular disease. Middle aged men with hypertension were questioned regarding sexual dysfunction, with 35% found to have symptoms of dysfunction and only 14% of men with normal blood pressure reporting symptoms. The researchers also found that a commonly prescribed medication for erectile dysfunction improved atherosclerosis in the aorta, a condition associated with high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease. They are hoping to advance their knowledge of the drug and apply it to a broader therapeutic use.
