Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a common complication in aged women where bone becomes brittle and more liable to break. Treatment has mainly consisted of maintaining a healthy diet, weight and exercise regime and incorporating calcium, Vitamin D, and oral bisphosphonates. Oral bisphosphonates are not always acceptable in populations who suffer from gastrointestinal complaints, which has lead scientists to develop a trial for an intravenous form that has shown encouraging results.
