A mother was giving her infant prescribed Zantac regularly to treat acid reflux. After several prescriptions, she received one that smelt differently to what she regularly used and it was a smaller amount. After querying this, the pharmacist said it was definitely right. It wasn't until another prescription that she was informed that it was the wrong medication. It is believed to have possible been Zyrtec but no-one is sure. The girl has not suffered any long term effects but her parents are still a little concerned. Zyrtec an Zantac is often confused, leading to a medication error. Experts warn that all consumers should be aware of what medication they are taking, what it is supposed to do, look like and smell like. Consumers need to be proactive to prevent medication errors.
