An estimated 600-700 million people world wide suffer from iron deficiency (WHO). Estimated 8% of women and 10-29% of girls have iron deficiency in the UK. It is usually caused by an inadequate diet and vegetarians are especially prone. Symptoms include fatigue and inability to concentrate and severe cases can result in reduced pain threshold, affected body temperature control, hair loss and compromised immune system.
