A mother of a brain damaged son is suing the midwife and a midwife student for her son's condition that she states resulted from negligence during delivery. The mother alleges that the midwife and student restrained her from calling an ambulance while she was in labor at her home, but later gave birth via caesarean section at a nearby hospital. Her son required immediate resuscitation due to sepsis and lack of oxygen to the brain, causing death to areas in the brain and resulting seizures. The midwife had previously been on trial for the death of another baby during labour. She has now been removed from her position and her midwifery licence revoked after investigation into these two cases. She is disputing the claims against her.
