A young man ended up being disgracefully discharged from the military for being a ‘sloppy, incompetent’ soldier. Worried neighbours called his parents who found him in a very incapacitated state. One month later and after going to several hospitals, they found he had Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease – a rare degenerative brain disorder that causes rapid, progressive dementia. His parents were told that while in the military, a doctor had pronounced him healthy and a psychiatrist had said he was ‘faking it’.
