New beta blocker safer for treating high blood pressure in diabetics



Traditional hypertension medication (beta blockers) tends to raise blood sugar and is therefore unsuitable for people with conditions such as diabetes. However, a new beta blocker called carvedilol is not associated with increased sugar levels and may therefore prove beneficial for diabetics with high blood pressure. Also, no weight gain was associated with the use of carvedilol.
