New bipolar drug subsidized by the Australian government

Current medications used to treat acute manic or depressive bipolar attacks are helpful but as many as 90% of sufferers have relapses. A new drug called Zyprexa will be subsidized by the Australian government as studies have shown that it can reduce the number of manic and depressive episodes and hence improve quality of life. The drug contains olanzapine which enables it to be used in the long term. High treatment costs have meant that up to a third of sufferers have no treatment.
