New brain cancer treatment improves prognosis

A novel treatment for brain cancer involves inserting a small implant (Gliadel Implant) into the site of the removed tumor. The implant then releases the chemotherapy drug carmustine which can fight the tumor whilst at the same time avoiding side effects such as hair loss and nausea. A study on the procedure showed that there was 29% reduced risk of death and a one year survival rate after diagnosis of 60%.
