Smoking addiction

Nicotine is now being recognised to be one of the most addictive substances in the world with growing trends for young users and increasing deaths secondary to consumption. It is more socially acceptable than other inhaled illicit drugs, but poses far more chronic health issues, such as heart attacks, strokes, aneurysms, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, infertility, eye problems, and mouth, laryngeal and lung cancer. "Smokers lung" is a disease of long-term smokers that presents like pneumonia or bronchitis and is now appearing in younger people. Chewing tobacco is no better, with increased risk of cancer as well as dental conditions, including submucous fibrosis.
