Soy allergy sufferers need to be wary of many foods

About 15 proteins have been identified in soy as possible allergens. Depending on the amount and type of processing the soy product receives can affect it's allergenicity. Soy allergy symptoms include acne, angioedema, rhinitis, anaphylaxis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, bronchospasm, cankers, colitis, conjunctivitis, diarrhea, diffuse small bowel disease, dyspnea, eczema, enterocolitis, fever, hypotension, itching, laryngeal edema, lethargy, pollinosis, urticaria, vomiting and wheezing. Infants are more prone to soy allergy than adults. People with allergies to soy may also react to peanuts, green peas, chick peas, lima beans, string beans, wheat flour, rye flour and barley flour. Some of the products that soy or its derivatives may be found in include: hydrolyzed vegetable protein (flavor enhancer used in soup, sauces, gravies, flavoring blends, canned and frozen vegetables meats and poultry), lecithin, miso, mono-diglyceride, natural flavor, soy cheese, soy fiber, soy flour, soy grits, soy meal, soy oil, soy milk, soy oil, soy protein, soy sauces, soy yoghurt, tempeh, tofu, vegetable oil and vitamin E.
