The incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are increasing across the board. Doctors argued that increased screening campaigns influenced the greater numbers detected, however this consideration could not wholly justify the escalation of STIs. 110% of Chlamydia diagnoses were made in 2004 compared to 2000, diagnosis of genital herpes increased 50%, and gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, and genital warts also became more prevalent. In addition, medical experts noted that young women were more likely to present with an STI than men.
