Virus cures cancer

Researchers have discovered a benign virus that does not cause disease in humans, but can cure cancer. The adeno-associated virus type 2 (AAV-2) targets abnormal cells in the body and attacks them, which has given scientists hope to develop AAV-2 as a new anti-cancer drug. This discovery was elicited through identifying women who were concurrently infected with human papilloma virus, the wart virus that causes cervical cancer, and AAV-2, as these women were less likely to develop cervical cancer. Similar studies have also been conducted on breast, prostate, and squamous cell cancers which involve epithelial cells.
