Warning signs of a heart attack

One third of the world's population dies from complications of cardiovascular disease, the majority occur in developing countries. Heart disease and stroke risks are increased in people who have a family history of them, lead stressful lifestyles, eat fatty foods, are obese, drink alcohol, smoke and do not exercise. Diabetes is also fast becoming a common risk factor for cardiac and kidney disease. Other recognised comorbid conditions include high cholesterol, high triglyceride, high blood pressure, and menopause. Heart attacks present as chest pain, or pain in the back or arm, anxiety, sweating, nausea and shortness of breath. Prevention of heart attacks is to have a regular physician, start a healthy diet, lead an active lifestyle, quit smoking, take prescribed medication and control blood sugars.
