Your Autistic child

Autism is a component of Autism spectrum disorders, with an unknown cause and increasing incidence. It currently affects 3-4 per 1,000 children who have difficultly interacting socially, poor verbal skills, repetitive behavior and resistance to change. Behavior can also be influenced by autistic enterocolitis, which causes gut pain and distress to the child. The earlier the diagnosis, the earlier treatment can be introduced and the better outcome the child will have. With timely family support, education of parents, providing for the special needs of the child, and implementing services to provide for the family, the burden of the frustrating disease should be eased.
