Glossary for Opsoclonus Myoclonus

  • Ataxia: It is a neurological sign and symptom consisting of gross lack of co-ordination of muscle movements.
  • Brain conditions: Medical conditions that affect the brain
  • Inability to speak: Inability to speak (mutism)
  • Infantile polymyoclonus: A rare disorder characterized by involuntary muscle jerking and rapid eye movements. The condition is not progressive and symptoms go through periods of improvement and deterioration.
  • Intention tremor: intention tremor is a dyskinetic disorder consisting of wide tremor during voluntary movements
  • Muscle weakness: A condition which is characterized by an inability of the muscles to function at their full strenght
  • Myoclonus: Sudden involuntary muscle twitching or movement.
  • Neuroblastoma: Neuroblastoma is a malignant (cancerous) tumor of infants and children that develops from nerve tissue.
  • Neurological disorder: diseases affecting the central and peripheral nervous system
  • Slurred speech: Slurring speech or difficulty articulating words
  • Speech symptoms: Problems with speech or voice.
  • St. Louis encephalitis: Mosquito-borne type of brain infection (encephalitis)
  • Tumor: Any type of lump or swelling (not just cancers)
  • Unsteady gait: A condition which is characterized by a poorly balanced gait
  • Viral diseases: Any disease that is caused by a virus
