Any of a group of diseases that affects the bone-forming centers of the skeleton. Initially there is a degeneration and death of bone tissue followed by repair and regeneration. This condition generally only occurs in children and adolescents which is when most bone formation occurs. Osteochondrosis tends to occur mostly in the long bones of the body. Osgood-Schlatter disease and Scheuermann's disease are examples of osteochondroses.
