Absorption: Absorption is the process by which the body absorbs nutrients and other substances, such as water, chemicals and poisons, from the alimentary canal into the blood stream. Absorption takes place after food is digested into small particles that can be absorbed by the body. Most absorption of nutrients takes place in the small intestine, although some happens in the stomach. Absorption of water takes place in the large intestine.
