Adduction : A process where the limbs are pulled in close to the body or the fingers and toes are pulled in together.
Adduction: Adduction is an anatomical term used to describe a general action of a muscle on a bone or joint. Muscles of adduction act on the extremities. When a muscle adducts, it brings a bone and its related extremity, arm or leg, closer to the saggital plane, or midline, of the body. For example, adduction is used when bringing the arms down to the sides of the body. Muscles of adduction in the hands and feet pull the fingers and toes together.
Adduction is the opposite action of abduction. Conditions that can affect normal adduction include musculoskeletal trauma, bone fracture, arthritis, myalga, muscle/tendon rupture, muscle/tendon tears, strains, myopathy, atrophy, infectious myositis, and neuromuscular diseases.
