Anal Canal: The anal canal is the last section of the gastrointestinal tract. The anal canal connects the rectum of the large intestine to the outside of the body and allows feces to exit the body through the anus. The anal canal also contains the internal anal sphincter and the external anal sphincter, which are involved in the control of elimination.
Conditions that afflict the anal canal include anal cancer, incontinence, hemorrhoids, anal fissure, and imperforate anus.
