Basophils: Basophils are a type of white blood cell. Basophils are involved in producing the response to antigens, inflammation, and allergic reactions and by releasing the chemical histamine.
Conditions that can afflict the basophils include leukemia, leukopenia, basopenia, thyrotoxicosis, basophilia, hypothyroidism, and myeloproliferative disorders.
