The digestive tract or "gastrointestinal tract" is the long passage that takes food from the mouth all the way through with wastes coming out of the anus. The basic sequence is mouth, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. Various organs such as the pancreas and liver secrete enzymes used in the digestive process. The muscular process that moves food through the digestive tract is called peristalsis.

Digestive tract: The digestive tract includes the organs, structures and substances that break down food into basic nutrients that the body needs for energy, growth and repair. These include carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and protein. The digestive tract also processes waste products and eliminates them from the body in the form of feces.
The digestive tract includes the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. The digestive tract works directly with accessory organs, including the pancreas and gall bladder, to complete digestion. The digestive tract also interacts directly or indirectly with every other system in the body, including the nervous system, genitourinary system, musculoskeletal system, immune system, circulatory system, respiratory system and endocrine system.
