Gastric Glands: Gastric glands are located in the gastric mucosa in the stomach and produce digestive gastric juices and mucus. Gastric glands contain specialized cells that produce and secrete hydrochloric acid and enzymes, such as pepsin, to digest food. Digestive juices are secreted into the stomach through the gastric pits in the gastric mucosa. Conditions that afflict gastric pits include stomach cancer, gastric ulcer, Helicobacter pylori infection and gastritis.
