Integumentary System: The integumentary system is the largest system in the body. The integumentary system includes the skin, hair, nails, and the sensory receptors and glands found in the skin. The functions of the integumentary system include cushioning and protecting the tissues beneath it and regulating body temperature. Functions also include sensory reception, absorption of some substances and biochemical synthesis.
The integumentary system interacts and works together with every other system in the body, including the musculoskeletal system, genitourinary system, nervous system, circulatory system, immune system, respiratory system, digestive system and endocrine system. Conditions that can afflict the integumentary system include cancer, dysplagia, melanoma, burns, rashes, acne, psoriasis, eczema, warts, infection, trauma, herpes, inflammation and lacerations.
