Megakaryocytes: Megakaryocytes are cells that are the foundation of platelets. Megakaryocytes are large cells produced in the bone marrow from stem cells. They then they break up into fragments that become platelets before entering the bloodstream. Platelets play a vital role in blood clotting and the prevention of excessive blood loss.
