Summary Information: Muscle Tissue

Muscle Tissue: Muscle tissue is a collection of specialized cells called fibers that make up the muscles in the body. Muscle tissue has the ability to contract, resulting in the movement of a muscle. There are three types of muscle tissue: skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle and smooth muscle.

Conditions that can afflict the muscle tissue include infection, atrophy, trauma, cancer, sarcoma, neuromuscular diseases and inflammation.
