Summary Information: Omohyoid Muscle

Omohyoid Muscle: The omohyoid muscle is one muscle of the infrahyoids, a group of paired muscles of the anterior neck located below the hyoid bone. The omohyoid muscle originates on the scapula and inserts on the hyoid bone. The omohyoid muscle is involved in swallowing and speaking by pulling down the larynx and hyoid bone.

Conditions that can afflict the omohyoid muscle include overuse injuries, tears, strains, myopathy, atrophy, infectious myositis, neuromuscular diseases, lacerations and contusions.
