Introduction: Pain Disorder
A somatoform disorder (no obvious medical cause) where the main complaint is persistent chronic pain that is distressing or makes it difficult for the patient to function normally. There is no obvious medical reason for the pain but it is nevertheless felt as a genuine pain to the patient. The pain has a psychological origin which can often be made worse by stress. Treatment often involves psychotherapy and/or medication.
